Shattering the Myth of "Feeling the Wetness" 2. Urine-soaked skin encourages bacterial + Fungal growth
One common strategy with children at daycare in particular is to put underwear on and then add a PullUp on top of it. This is to be highly discouraged, as it is an infection risk.
Keeping urine against the skin is irritating. It can cause diaper rash. Urine against the skin can cause bacterial infections, particularly urinary tract infections (UTIs), especially in girls as their urethras are only 1.5 to 2.5 cm in length (roughly 0.6 to 1 inch). That’s it. Wet/dirty underwear can also cause UTIs in uncircumcised boys. They can cause yeast infections in all children.
More than being an infection risk, wet underwear under a PullUp isn’t going to help your child become potty trained any faster. PullUps are so technologically advanced that they wick the vast majority of available moisture away from the body. This advancement is great at preventing the severity of diaper rashes seen in the days of cloth diapers, but has greatly delayed modern kiddos being fully potty trained.
